CT & MD 911 regualtory monitoringRecently Connecticut and Maryland adopted changes to E-911 fees. Both changes effect the manner in which prepaid wireless providers  remit their E-911 fees.  The changes are set to take effect on  July 1, 2013.

Connecticut established a rate of $0.70 per retail transaction to become effective July 1, 2013.  Collected fees are to be remitted in the same manner as sales and use taxes. 

Maryland adopted a new prepaid wireless fee of $0.60 per retail transaction.  Collected fees are to be remitted in the same manner as sales and use taxes.  Provisions of the law permit sellers to deduct a portion of the fee to cover direct-start-up costs and on-going collection fees.
