state and federal telecom regulatory activitiesThe Regulatory Mix, TMI’s daily blog of regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court, issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of a TMI Regulatory Bulletin (our popular subscription service).

TELECOM

Virginia

The Virginia Commission made the waiver of its rule requiring delivery of the annual residential white pages telephone directory permanent. The waiver applies to Verizon and any local telephone company that uses Verizon for publishing and distributing directories in Virginia. Customers may request a residential white page directory and that request will be treated as a standing order that does not require annual renewal. See TMI Bulletin for further details.

Indiana

A group of industry participants have submitted a proposed order to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission calling for an all-services distributed overlay of the 812 NPA. The proposed order calls for a 13-month implementation schedule. Acting on a suggestion made at one of its field hearings, the IURC has asked the North American Numbering Plan Administration to assign the number 463 to the new area code. This is because it spells “IND,” the state’s former post office abbreviation. Watch for a TMI Bulletin when a final order is released.
