Regulatory Activities at FCC, PUC, for Telecom

The Regulatory Mix, TMI’s daily blog of regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court, issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of a TMI Regulatory Bulletin (our popular subscription service).

TELECOM

Colorado

On July 15, 2013, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to repeal all rules associated with, or with reference  to, the Colorado Low Income Telephone Assistance Program. This program was repealed by legislation enacted in April 2013. A hearing is scheduled for August 20, 2013. Comments on the proposal are due by August 5, 2013.  See TMI Bulletin dated 4/9/13. Watch for follow-up Bulletin on final order.

District of Columbia

TMI is monitoring the District of Columbia Public Service Commission investigation of Verizon’s continued use of copper infrastructure for the provision of telecommunications services. The Commission will also assess Verizon’s plans to transition customers from such services to telecommunications services provided over fiber facilities.

The due date for comments on Verizon’s April 1, 2013, response to Commission questions has once again been extended. Comments are now due on July 19, 2013, and reply comments are due August 23, 2013. Watch for TMI Bulletins on this issue.
