The Regulatory Mix

The Regulatory Mix, TMI’s daily blog of regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court, issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of a TMI Regulatory Bulletin.

TELECOM

Iowa

The Iowa Utilities Board is seeking comment on revisions to its rules for eligible telecommunications carriers (ETCs). Written comments are due September 10, 2014; oral comments may be presented on October 28, 2014. The revisions are intended to conform the Board’s rules to recent changes in the federal Lifeline and USF rules. Areas addressed include materials that will be considered confidential; the process by which carriers apply for ETC designation, including designations for Lifeline- only providers and wireless resellers; and ongoing annual filing requirements. The proposed rules also address what happens when a company with an ETC designation is acquired and how ETC designations may be relinquished.

FCC

The FCC’s Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau announced the dates for filing comments on whether certain docketed Commission proceedings should be terminated as dormant. Link to list Comments are due August 20, 2014; replies are September 4, 2014. See the Regulatory Mix dated 7/1/14. Commenters must follow the filing instructions provided in the June 30, 2014 Public Notice
