TELECOM
FCC
The FCC announced the final agenda for its first Open Meeting of 2015, to be held on January 29, 2015. The agenda includes two broadband items not listed on the tentative agenda. With respect only to item #1 listed below, the FCC has waived the sunshine period prohibition contained in 47 C.F.R. § 1.1203, until 11:59 pm on Friday, January 23, 2015. Thus, presentations with respect to item #1 will be permitted until that time. The meeting will be broadcast live at www.fcc.gov/live.
The agenda is as follows:
- Wireless E911 Location Accuracy Requirements (PS Docket No. 07-114): The FCC will consider a Report and Order to ensure that accurate caller location information is automatically provided to public safety officials for all wireless calls to 911, including for indoor calls, to meet consumer and public safety needs and expectations, and to take advantage of new technological developments.
- Development of Advanced Telecommunications Capability and Possible Steps to Accelerate Such Deployment (GN Docket No. 14-126): The FCC will consider a 2015 Broadband Progress Report examining whether advanced telecommunications capability is being deployed to all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion; and a Notice of Inquiry asking what immediate action the FCC should take to accelerate the deployment of such capability by removing barriers to infrastructure investment and by promoting competition in the telecommunications market.
- Development of Advanced Telecommunications Capability and Possible Steps to Accelerate Such Deployment (GN Docket Nos. 12-228 and 14-126): The FCC will consider an Order announcing the conclusion of the Ninth Notice of Inquiry
- Presentation on New Consumer Help Center: The FCC will hear a presentation on the new Consumer Help Center See the Regulatory Mix dated 1/6/15 that provides an easier-to-use, more consumer-friendly portal for filing and monitoring informal consumer complaints, as well as accessing educational materials.
- Enforcement Action: The FCC will consider whether to take an enforcement action.
California
The PUC has issued a Press Release reminding residents and businesses with 415 area code telephone numbers (San Francisco and parts of Marin County) that beginning February 21, 2015, they must dial 1 + the area code + 7-digit telephone number when making all direct dial calls. In December 2013 the PUC approved an overlay adding the new 628 area code to the 415 area code region. Phone numbers with the new 628 area code may be issued beginning March 21, 2015.
