Privacy Workshop
The FCC announced the agenda for its workshop to explore the FCC’s role in protecting the privacy of consumers who use broadband Internet access services. See the Regulatory Mix dated 4/2/15. The workshop will be held on April 28 starting at 10 a.m. at FCC headquarters. The workshop will commence with remarks by FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler. That will be followed, at 10:15 – 10:45 a.m., with an overview of the collection and use of broadband subscriber data presented by Matt Blaze, Associate Professor, Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania. The first panel, at 10:45 – 12:00 p.m. , will discuss the privacy implications associated with broadband Internet access services. The second panel, at 1:00 – 2:15 p.m., will discuss the application of Section 222 of the Communications Act to broadband Internet access services. Members of the public are invited to attend in person and may also watch the workshop live at www.fcc.gov/live on the day of the event. Members of the public also may submit questions during the workshop by e-mail to livequestions@fcc.gov.
Staff Changes
The FCC announced that Julie Veach, Wireline Competition Bureau Chief, will be departing the Commission on May 22, 2015. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler intends to name Deputy Bureau Chief Matt DelNero as her replacement. The FCC also announced that Chairman Wheeler intends to: (1) name Alison Kutler as Acting Chief of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau and Special Advisor to the Chairman for Digital Opportunity, effective June 1, 2015; and (2) name Kris Monteith, Acting Chief of CGB, as Deputy Chief of the Wireline Competition Bureau.
Kansas
The Corporation Commission has established filing requirements for the July 2015 ICC/USF reform tariff filings. CLECs that have not incorporated a reference and/or URL to their interstate tariff in their intrastate tariff must file revised intrastate access tariffs and supporting documentation by June 15, 2015. Tariffs are effective upon filing, unless the carrier requests a later date. The Commission recognizes that, under FCC rules, CLECs are allowed 15 days after the effective date of an ILEC’s interstate tariff to make their own interstate tariff filings and that, as a result, CLEC tariffs may become effective after July 1 of any year.
