INCOMPAS logo-1INCOMPAS Asks FCC to Kick Start Net Neutrality 

INCOMPAS, the Internet and Competitive Networks Association, has filed a Petition for Reconsideration with the FCC asking the Commission to reconsider and reverse its decision to uphold the reclassification of broadband Internet access service (BIAS) as a Title I information service. INCOMPAS seeks reinstatement of BIAS as a Title II service and requests the reissuance of the FCC’s open internet rules. See Press Release here

 

2020 FCC SealFCC’s Releases Details on Emergency Broadband Benefit Program Roundtable 

The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau has released a public notice detailing the roundtable discussion about the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program that will take place on February 12, 2021, at 10:00 AM EST.  This will be a live virtual event open to the public on the Internet from the FCC’s webpage at www.fcc.gov/live.

telehealth_3FCC Seeks Comment on Telehealth Application Metrics 

A second round of funding for the FCC’s COVID–19 Telehealth Program was approved in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, for which $249.95 million was appropriated. The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau is seeking comment on the metrics that should be applied to determine applications for funding, and where to target the funding.  Comments on metrics, originally due by January 19, 2021, will continue to be accepted at any time.  

 

MS state legislatureMississippi Bill Designed to Increase Broadband Connectivity/Accessibility  

To expand connectivity and accessibility of high-speed Internet across the state, the Mississippi Senate approved Senate Bill 2798 this week.  Senate Bill 2798 allows energy companies to lease “dark fiber” –  unused fiber deployed along power grids – to Internet service providers. Senator Joel Carter, the Bill’s author, said “Increasing connectivity opens the rest of the world to our children. We saw the importance of Internet access grow during the pandemic, and it is only going to increase from here.”
