FCC Order Extends Comment Period for Space Launch Operations 

The Office of Engineering and Technology of the FCC released an Order granting a 30-day extension to file comments on the Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Matter of Allocation of Spectrum for Non-Federal Space Launch Operations, ET Docket No. 13-115. Among other things, the Further Notice sought comment on new allocations and service rules for non-Federal space launch operations, expanded Federal use of non-Federal fixed and mobile satellite service bands, and use of the 399.9-400.05 MHz mobile satellite service band by Federal space stations.  Comments are now due on August 11, 2021, and reply comments are due on September 10, 2021. 

 

North Carolina Forms Office of Digital Equity and Literacy  

Governor Roy Cooper created a new Office of Digital Equity and Literacy, a division the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT).  According to a statement released by the NCDIT, the office is the first of its kind.  It will implement the governor’s plan to close the digital divide in the state by coordinating the expansion of digital literacy offerings and partnerships across the state.  “The pandemic showed us more than ever the importance of digital equity in North Carolina,” said Governor Cooper. “Creating the Office of Digital Equity and Literacy will enable us to accelerate the critical work of bringing all North Carolinians up to speed with the digital society so they can live more equitable, prosperous, educated and healthier lives.”
