The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a Public Notice announcing the next meeting of the North American Numbering Council (NANC). The meeting will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021, beginning at 9:30 a.m., via video conference and available to the public via the Internet at http://www.fcc.gov/live.

At this meeting, the NANC will hear routine status reports from the North American Portability Management, LLC, the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority, and the Numbering Administration Oversight Working Group.

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, requested information from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking the “full funding capabilities” the FCC has at its disposal for the Universal Service Fund (USF) program.  In a letter addressed to FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, Senator Wicker requested “a detailed status of all USF accounts, including but not limited to the Connect America Fund (CAF), Lifeline Program for Low-Income Consumers, E-Rate – Schools & Library Program, and the Rural Health Care Program.”  

 

Virginia Gen Assembly State-Capitol-3Virginia Governor signs Consumer Data Protection Act 

Virginia becomes the second state, following California, to pass comprehensive consumer privacy legislation. The new law will apply to all businesses operating in the Commonwealth that control or process the personal data of at least 100,000 consumers, or that control or process the data of 25,000 consumers and derive 50% of gross revenue from the sale of personal data. Violations will be enforced by the Attorney General. The law will become effective January 1, 2023.
