robocall device51 State Attorneys General and 12 Major Carriers Announce Anti-Robocall Principles

In a press release the Attorney General of North Carolina announced they joined 50 other Attorneys General and 12 phone companies to create a set of principles aimed at thwarting illegal robocalls.  In the release the AG advised that the phone companies have agreed to adopt eight principles to fight illegal robocalls.

FCC's PaiFCC Chairman Pai Statement on SHAKEN/STIR Robocall Summit

In a release, Chairman Pai issued a statement on the FCC’s recent SHAKEN/STIR Robocall Summit.  Chairman Pai stated in part:

“The summit was productive, and we received generally encouraging signs that companies are headed toward full implementation of the SHAKEN/STIR caller ID authentication framework.”

The Governor of Michigan announced the opening of applications for the Connecting Michigan Communities (CMIC) grant program to increase broadband in underserved areas of Michigan. While much of Michigan has access to high-speed broadband internet service, there are still many rural areas lacking this vital connectivity.   “Access to high-speed internet is a must to compete in today’s society,” said Whitmer.  “Connecting all Michigan communities with broadband service is about leveling the playing field for every child and small business in the state. Everyone should be able to fully explore their passions and talents, no matter where they live, and not be held back by a lack of infrastructure.”

FCC's PaiFCC Robocall Summit

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced that he expects major phone companies to implement SHAKEN/STIR caller ID authentication standards this year, and he will host a summit on July 11, 2019 to examine industry’s progress toward meeting this deadline. The summit will focus on the industry’s implementation of the SHAKEN/STIR caller ID authentication framework and identify any challenges to deployment of the SHAKEN/STIR framework and discuss how best to overcome them.
